Undergraduate Programme

Undergraduate Study

These are post-secondary education courses taken before the postgraduate courses. Generally, it involves academic programmes which awards you a bachelor’s degree or other equivalents upon completion. Applications to UK universities by international students are managed by the Universities and Colleges Admission Service (UCAS).

Types of Undergraduate Degrees

  • Bachelor’s Degree

This is a first year degree with a set programme of academic study, although some utilizes practical elements and placements. The degree usually comes in different forms depending on the field such as Bachelor of Science (B.S.C.), Bachelor of Art (BA), Bachelor of Education (BE d) as well as Bachelor of Engineering (B Eng).

It comes in both full time and part time options with the former usually taking 3-4 years to complete.

  • Shorter Undergraduate Degrees
  • Foundation Degree – This is an equivalent of the first 2 years of an honours degree.
  • Certificate of Higher Education (Cert.HE) – For full time, this lasts for one year, while it takes two years for part time.
  • Diploma of Higher Education (Dip.HE) – This is a 2 years full time degree.
  • Higher National Degree (H.N.D) – This is an equivalent of the first 2 years of a university course.

You should, however, note that none of these shorter degree options qualify for a postgraduate study. But if you have a change of heart, you can opt to join an extended 3-year degree.
